Belgium and New York

Pictures from my recent visit to Belgium and New York, including pictures of the Easter Parade in New York. Pictures from my recent visit to Belgium and New York. On April 13-15th I was in Belgium where I visited family and friends. On April 16th, my birthday, I was in New York and went to the Easter Parade, where people were showing off really odd hats. I also went to the Lion King show on Broadway.

Nahoon

We went to Nahoon beach in East London over the weekend and had our cameras with us. This album contains the resulting pictures with people and animals on the beach, including some great pictures of kite flying.

Knysna, Robberg and Tsitiskama

In August 2005, we made a wonderful trip to Knysna and visited nearby Tsitsikama national park and Robberg Peninsula. This album contains a series of pictures from that trip. All three of these locations were very nice and definitely worth visiting!

Whales, Dolphins and waterfoul

Pictures from our Whale Watching Trip by Knysna. We saw Southern Right Whales, Humpback Whales, Dolphins and penguins. Pictures from our Whale Watching Trip by Knysna. On the trip we saw Southern Right Whales, Humpback Whales, Dolphins and penguins. As this was our main purpose for making a trip to Knysna, this was definitely very worthwhile!

Port Elizabeth

These pictures were taken during several trips to Port Elizabeth. Port Elizabeth is the closest city to East London, where we live. It takes about 3 hours to get there and the drive is unfortunately not very comfortable. The city is pleasant to visit though and the shopping is much better than East London.

Wild Coast

These pictures were taken at two separate trips to the Wild Coast, visiting Morgan Bay, Kei Mouth and the first part of the Transkei including a visit to one of the Shipwreck. The Wild coast is exactly what the title says ... a lovely wild coast with fantastic walking and picture taking opportunities.

To and Fro Kruger Park

Part of the fun of our trip to Kruger Park was that we drove there all the way from East London - approximately 1500km/950 miles! We stopped over in Bloemfontein, Gold Reef City (an amuzement park close to Johannesburg), Graskop and Johannesburg. This album contains the pictures of the trip itself - See also the "Kruger Park" album for pictures from Kruger park.

Kruger Park

We spent about 4 days in Kruger park and saw all of the big 5 (leopard(!), lion, elephant, buffalo and rhino) and many other animals including many different types of bird, antelopes, hippos, crocodiles, etc. This album contains the pictures from our visit to the park. A separate album contains the pictures of the trip to and from Kruger park (About 1500km from East London!)

Trip to Hogsback

About 150 km from East London is a small village in the mountains called Hogsback. Lonely planet describes it as a "magical resort high in the beautiful Amatola Mountains". It is also in Hogsback that Tolkin is said to have been inspired to write the Hobbit. All this seemed like a good reason to visit the place on a daytrip on a hot May day. We enjoyed the forests, the streams and the views during a walk in the area, a visit to one of the local eateries ("The edge") and a bit of driving around. What struck us the most is how it has a completely different atmosphere from the area around it, which is dry and without much vegetagion. Hogsback is a very pleasant place for walks and to get "away from it all". Oh, by the way, one of the local ladies confirmed that Tolkien could not have written the book based on Hogsback, as he was too little when he left South Africa. Possibly, he based it on what his grandmother told him about the place.

Johan’s parents visit

Pictures of Johan's parents visit in April 2005. The album combines a combination of pictures taken by the parents (specifically Cape Town and surroundings) and more family type pictures.
